A grading systems allows all students to proceed through levels, or grades, signifying their growth and development. Whilst it is not mandatory for students to go through the grading system, it is a great way for both adults and children to have their progress recognised.
Gradings generally take place every 3 months for beginners through to 1st Kyu grades. These pictures are from the Judo grading at Bu'sen in September 2013. The first picture is before the Judo grading class starts with the low grade closest to the camera.
Once the warm up is completed it is time for the students to show their throwing techniques. Sensei Dave shows the throw the students need to demonstrate.
As part of the grading the student also need to demonstrate their fighting skills. Sensei Frank Perry goes over the rules.
It is important to do a warm up before the grading starts and here Sensei Dave leads the young students.
The students show of their techniques in pairs. Sensei Dave closely watch two young students.
Students are grouped in groups of 3 or 4 of equal size & grade before getting into action!
